Our new routine

Phew. I'm tired. Today was my first day going to work since August of 2011. For the next 3 months, our days will go like this:

Wake at 6 AM: get dressed, pour some coffee, empty dishwasher. Nurse Aurelia when she wakes up around 6:30, and get girls changed. Have family breakfast, which usually consists of fruit and yogurt.

Head to work at 7:15 AM. Try to look like I know what I'm doing (okay, just kidding) until I pump at 10 AM. Grab some lunch around Noon, pump again at 2 PM.

Get home at 5 PM and enjoy lots of snuggles. Play, start dinner, eat, give girls baths, nurse Aurelia, bedtime stories and then to bed I said, around 7:15 PM.

Dishes, laundry, e-mail, {possibly} blogging, {probably} wine, a little TV with Mike and to bed by 10:30 PM 11 PM 11:30 PM. But really, I need help getting to bed earlier because Momma is TIRED.

This post was supposed to have pictures...but I forgot. And I'm too exhausted to care. Today was hard -- more on that later. For now I think I need to get some sleep.

This week's Toddle Along Tuesday topic is A Day in the Life! Tell us about your day...the usual, or a special one. Share your schedule, photos, whatever! There are no rules here, except that you link up a relevant post (old or new) rather than your whole blog.

*hugs* Hopefully it will get easier! Might have to join in on the TAT fun this time. Maybe a photo an hour or something since we're awful at concrete schedules because mommy gets distracted. Haha!

welcome to the wonderful world of being a working mom! My life savers have been:
1) picking out my clothes and the babies clothes the night before
2) having extra pumping parts and putting the pumping parts in the dishwasher at the end of the day
3) having a large button down shirt or sweatshirt to wear while pumping... because it gets chilly

Thank you so much for these suggestions!

Agree with all of these!! Oh and forget unloading that dishwasher in the morning. It will be there when you get home! :) Seriously though I am impressed you manage to fit that in the am. I am lucky if I get out of the house in time in the morning. I missed your search for a nanny updates...who is watching the girls?

New routines suck, especially when they involve getting up at 6am. Wishing you enough sleep and a speedy adjustment :)

Hope it gets easier for you (which I'm sure it will) and that it is a good change for you guys. On a random aside... I know you've mentioned that you are saving for a house. If Mike is planning to teach, the college/university may have a program to help you buy, I know mine had one for professors. Definitely look into it. :)

Thanks so much for reminding me of this! Yale had one, but we didn't qualify because he isn't a professor yet. We will definitely have to look into it in the future.

I would bet the first 3 weeks are going to be the hardest in terms of adjustment.

Another random thought - you had mentioned that this is high paying contract work. Be careful. Because they don't pay your benefits, etc, they often don't take out taxes on contract work and require you to file your own separately. I don't know how tax law works but often this means that you fall into a higher tax category than if you were a full-time employee with benefits. I remember my husband having to pay nearly 50% in taxes on a month of contract work. It was a huge hit when tax time came because it meant shelling out a lot of money that we weren't expecting to have to shell out. I would look in to it ASAP before you make plans for the money you will be making.

Thanks, I'll have to look into this. I'm sorry he had to pay so much in taxes. I think since I am technically employed by a consulting firm, I might not have to worry about that. They said they take out taxes for me. I guess we'll see when I get my first paycheck ;)

Hope the job is going well! We totally need to get to bed earlier around here too. It's difficult to just hop into bed after a long day though! Totally need that unwind time.
