Today you looked in the mirror, smiled, and said "pretty!"
It made me think back to my childhood, and how that was something I could never do. I was too distracted by all of my imperfections: pimples, bumpy nose, unmanageable eyebrows, and buck teeth {for many years}. I could never bring myself to look past the enumerable blemishes of my exterior and see through to the bright, kind, and pretty person I was on the inside.
As you read this - some 10, 15, 20+ years from today - I hope that you are finding that you cannot relate to my previous feelings of inadequacy. I hope that you can still see your reflection and find joy in it. That you can be proud of and happy with the person you have become, both on the outside as well as in.
Please remember, sweetheart, that how you feel about yourself is so much more important than the approval of anyone else.
